Materials

The materials we choose are an integral part of every design. Each material is carefully selected for its quality, durability, and contribution to the character, function, and longevity of the chair. We collaborate closely with skilled suppliers around the world to create and deliver chairs of uncompromising quality, sourcing from different regions based on raw materials and crafting expertise.

Plywood

We source all our wood responsibly within the EU, prioritizing suppliers close to where our products are made to minimize the impact of transportation. Plywood is a recurring material in our collection and an important element in several of our most iconic designs. Plywood is created by layering thin sheets of veneer, gluing them together in a cross-grained pattern for strength and durability. This method reduces waste as it allows us to make use of a larger variety of wood, which otherwise might have been discarded on the basis of visual imperfections. Because it is crafted from natural wood veneers, each piece features unique variations in grain and color. Plywood strikes the perfect balance between strength and flexibilty, making it equipped to endure the movements characteristic for Varier chairs. Plywood is made from renewable resources, it is recyclable and highly suitable for re-use.

Post-consumer polypropylene

Post-consumer plastic is collected after use and given a new purpose through refinement and processing. Sourced from European household waste, discarded film and other plastic-based materials, it allows us to work with existing resources and transform them into durable components designed to last. Resistant to everyday wear and simple to clean, it retains its appearance over time while requiring minimal maintenance.

Wool

Wool is a remarkable furniture material, offering natural water-repellent and flame-retardant properties, as well as flexibility, durability, and comfort. It is a natural and renewable resource. Naturally resistant to dirt and stains, wool is easy to maintain and retains its appearance over time. Its soft, breathable fibres help regulate temperature and absorb moisture, contributing to lasting comfort in a variety of environments. The natural elasticity of wool gives it excellent flexibility and resilience, allowing it to adapt to everyday use while maintaining its shape and appearance.

Leather

Leather is a natural material that carries both strength and softness. Over time, its surface evolves gently with use and environment, developing a unique patina. We carry two types of leather: aniline and protected. Aniline leather has a natural, breathable surface that highlights the unique character of each hide, while protected leather features a durable finish that enhances resistance to everyday wear, stains, and moisture. Natural variations in grain, markings, and colour are an inherent characteristic of genuine leather.

Recycled Polyester

We use recycled polyester sourced from existing fibres. Valued for its versatility, it can be woven into a wide range of textures and expressions while offering lasting durability.
